India spans deserts, plains, mountains and two coastlines, so there is no single best time — only the best time for where you are going.
For most first journeys through the north — Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan and Varanasi — the cool, dry months of October to March are ideal. Kerala and the southern coast are pleasant for much of the year, with the clearest weather from November to February. The Himalaya, including Ladakh and much of Nepal and Bhutan, open up from spring through autumn.
We plan around both weather and crowds, timing landmark visits for the quietest, most beautiful light.
